I have read a lot of books in my two-decade lifetime, though I can't say I'm a wide reader. I've read a different array of genres, from science fiction to romance to contemporary to classic literature to chick-lit to encyclopaedias (yes, Ted Mosby's right)to science journals to memoirs to historical adaptations...the list goes on. Though I haven't read most of the must-read books recommended by the true bibliophiles, one cannot fathom the affinity I have towards books, especially if you take into account the cumulative number of hours I've spent in book-shoppes and libraries. I owe a lot to reading, and it's a blessing to have been brought up in such a lifestyle. I started reading (the newspaper) when I was 2, and since then I didn't stop. Some of my most prized possessions are my books, and come to think of it, the majority of my luggage coming to Manila to study were my reference materials and time-tested books.
However, I can't think of any book that has influenced me the most, besides my mother's old dictionary. It's a small Webster's Pocket Dictionary, too bad I don't have a picture. I remember it being my mom's most prized possession since 1983, her being a word-lover and all. When I was a kid, every time I ask for the meaning of a word, she'll tell me to "look it up in the dictionary". It was the most useful book I had every (co-)owned. I love that little book. Memories. :)
